Best Cookware

Step into any decent kitchen and you'll be greeted by cookware of all kinds. But before you go googly eyed at the awesome cookware your neighbor has, keep a checklist of the line of cooking you'll be doing in your kitchen before splurging on unnecessary pots and pans.

Here are some of the best cookware sets that we recommend.

How to Choose the Best Cookware

Look out for these few things:

Cookware Material
Get a cookware that conducts heat well. Here is a list of cookware materials that are commonly used and their pros and cons.

Stainless steel - Affordable, good for searing, but doesn't clean easily.
Copper - Responds to heat changes best, used by professionals, but extremely expensive.
Hard anodized aluminum - Affordable and easy to clean, but doesn't sear meats well.
Cast iron - Best for searing and outdoor cooking, cheap, but heavy and requires care and maintenance.
Ceramic - Easy to clean and arguably safest for cooking, but chips and break easily and doesn't sear well.
Non stick - Easy to clean but Teflon coating is a health hazard when exposed to high heat. It's best to choose hard anodized non stick pans over Teflon coated non stick pans.
Clad metals - A sandwich of two to three different metals such as stainless steel, copper and aluminum to combine the advantages and offset the flaws. Great for cooking but may be expensive.

Handle Construction
Choose heat-proof handles that provide you with an easy grip. Handles wrapped in silicone, plastic and wood are great but not exactly oven friendly while metal handles shouldn't give you any problems with the oven. Rivets should be tight and strong.

Always look for lids that fit tightly and lid handles that are cool to touch. Lids made from tempered glass provide you with a view of what's cooking in your cookware and these should come with steam vents.

Eventually it all boils down to how much you are willing and need to spend on your cookware. Remember, only buy what you need.
