How to Gear Up and Start Running Today

If you have been sedentary for too long and wished you could run marathons like your friends, you are really just one step away. All it takes is a brain switch to stop thinking you can't do it and start doing it, little by little.

To click that brain switch, you'll have to gear up first. Without the proper gear for running, it will be hard to persuade yourself that you're committed to the run. Here are some basic stuff that you'll need to start running. You don't have to get them all, but having these will make your run a lot better. When you feel good about your first run, it will be easier to go for the second, and the third, and so on.

A comfortable top that keeps you warm when running in the October weather.

A low impact sports bra that is perfect for running.

The best compression running tights to give support to your muscles.

Toe socks are better for running as they effectively prevent blisters.

The best running shoes may vary between runners, but your best bet is to get a pair that has great cushioning, a wide toe, and great support for the arch like this one.

A belt to keep car keys, your phone, energy gels and water for hydration. The belt should be light and adjustable so that it fits you well and snugly while you run.

You may not think that you need energy boosters during your run, but these energy gels work more like an aid than a necessity. You'll feel less fatigued and fewer aches if you took these during your run compared to not taking them.

A small and lightweight music player to keep you motivated.

And lastly, don't forget to protect your skin with sunscreen.
